As a response to the Audit Commission inspection of Adactus Housing Association earlier in the year, residents from across the group have been discussing with staff how to move Resident Involvement forward within the Group.
Specifically, residents have been looking at how residents can get involved in scrutinising the performance of the Association and how residents can get involved in making decisions on how money can be spent to make improvements to our neighbourhoods & communities.
Residents have visited other organisations to see how they operate, listened to presentations from staff, and have been consulted on the various options. As a result, residents have put together a number of recommendations and we are now looking for more volunteers to come and join Group Focus.
A training program is currently being put together and residents will need to attend the training before becoming a member of Group Focus. The training will be very practical and hands-on and will equip you with all the skills you will need to take part in scrutinising our performance and decision-making. We are particularly keen to recruit volunteers who are Beech Leaseholders, or residents of Miles Platting or Chorley Community Housing. Hugh McGarry, chairperson of Group Focus says “This is a wonderful opportunity for residents to make a difference, by having a say on how our money is spent. We will also be able to influence decisions that are made that affect ALL of us.”
