Aids and Adaptations
-
We provide minor and major adaptations to our properties. If you have a disability or a long term medical condition, or have difficulty doing everyday tasks such as climbing stairs or having a bath, we may be able to help you continue to live independently by adapting your home. We will carry out adaptations to your home providing that we have received the relevant professional recommendation.
We do need an Occupational Therapist’s referral for all adaptations. An Occupational Therapist will be able to assess your needs, suggest what type of adaptation would be the most suitable for you and help you to apply for them. In order to arrange an Occupational Therapist’s assessment please contact us using callconnect or mobileconnect.

All works under £500 in value will be automatically completed using our responsive repairs budget. We will carry out works up to the value of £6,000. If the value of the adaptations required exceeds £6,000 we will consider finding you alternative suitable accommodation or pursue available grant funding on your behalf.
If an already adapted property becomes available for you to move into we offer an incentive of up to £2,000 for additional work to be carried out including redecorating, new carpets or assisting with removal costs.
If no alternative accommodation is available, some of the Local Authority areas that we have properties in may offer a Disabled Facilities Grants that would pay for adaptation work to your home. We can visit you at your home, explain this process further and also help you in completing application forms.

Minor adaptations include things like fitting a grab rail or a stair rail, which we will fit free of charge, once we have agreed your request. If you think you may need a minor adaptation please get in touch and one of our Occupational Therapists will visit you to discuss your needs. If they decide you need a minor adaptation, we will aim to fit this within 28 days.
Minor adaptations include:
• Grab rails
• Shower seat
• Over-bath showers
• Vibrating fire alarms
• Handrails
• Additional steps
• Dropped kerbs
• Door entry phone system.

Major adaptations are things that will alter the structure of your home, such as a level access shower. We will first assess your circumstances during a home visit and if you qualify for an adaptation we will arrange for an Occupational Therapist to visit you and assess your needs.
We may then do a survey of your property to make sure it is possible to carry out the adaptation. If we agree to carry out the work, we will do so free of charge and tell you how long the work is likely to take. The time may vary depending on the type of adaptation you need and your personal circumstances.
If it is not possible to carry out the necessary work we will discuss with you about the options you have for alternative accommodation.
Major adaptations include:
• Level access shower
• Stairlifts
• Ramps
• Ceiling hoists
• Clos-o-mats
• Bathroom adaptations
• Kitchen adaptations.
