Elevate East Lancashire, one of Government’s Housing Market Renewal pathfinders, recently recognised Adactus’s tardis terraces in Nelson as role models for sustainability in Pennine Lancashire.
Adactus’s ‘tardis terrace’ style refurbishment of homes on Every Street, Nelson was celebrated as part of Elevate East Lancashire’s ‘Sustainable Stars’ competition, alongside other local projects in Pennine Lancashire. Adactus has found that this type of refurbishment to be a sustainable way of bringing diversity and choice into failing housing markets – it avoids the disruption that can be created by wholesale demolition and rebuilding, and has a smaller environmental impact in terms of energy, carbon and materials used.
In addition, as part of refurbishment works, Adactus invests in improving the thermal performance of the properties by heating and insulation works and maximising natural lighting throughout.

Rueben’s Court was officially launched by special guest, Leigh’s MP Andy Burnham, Secretary of State for Health. The event proved a great success with staff attending from all partners involved in the construction and management of the scheme, alongside the residents. The event proved a great opportunity for one of the residents to celebrate their birthday and receive a cake from the MP.
Adactus Housing and Ark Design and Architecture have worked closely with Wigan Borough Council and Richmond Fellowship, a specialist provider of mental health services, to provide spacious, high quality apartments for 14 people living with the effects of mental ill health. Richmond Fellowship is one of the biggest voluntary sector providers of mental health care in England, supporting over 7,500 people towards the best possible quality of life for each individual.
Rueben's Court was developed on the site of the former famous Leigh nightclub Ruebens. The new building which is owned by Adactus draws on local historical cues and expresses its residential nature in the arrangement of full height windows as seen on Victorian terraces in Leigh.
