Foodbanks in Wigan and Leigh receive funds from Jigsaw’s virtual Christmas celebration

Jigsaw Homes is donating funds to charities in Wigan and Leigh to help its residents this Christmas.

This year Jigsaw held a virtual Christmas party for colleagues, so is using the money saved to donate to two foodbanks in the borough.

Fur Clemt, based on Montrose Avenue in Wigan and The Bridge in Leigh will each receive £1,033 to help families and individuals in areas where Jigsaw manages homes.

Chief Executive Hilary Roberts, said: “Like many organisations across the country, we set aside a budget for our annual Christmas celebration where we take the opportunity to thank colleagues for their hard work during the year, in often demanding and challenging situations.

“Circumstances mean that wasn’t possible this year, so by holding a virtual celebration, we can use the money saved to help our residents and our communities. This has been a difficult year for many people, so we wanted to further support our vital foodbanks and we hope this money will go some way to help.”

Shirley Southworth, Director at Fur Clemt Foodbank said: “This year has been difficult for our project, as it has for many organisations. Donations are a valuable addition to our income and ensure we can continue to support our community by providing food hampers to those struggling with reduced income due to the pandemic.”

And an additional £5,000 will also go Jigsaw Support for presents and gift vouchers for customers and children within its services, so everyone has something to open on Christmas Day.
