Neighbourhood Engagement team support 25 residents into work

Since April 2019, Jigsaw Group’s Ashton-under-Lyne Work Club has helped to support 25 unemployed residents secure paid employment.

This was achieved by the Group’s Neighbourhood Engagement team working in partnership with Tameside MBC Adult Education.

The majority of attendees are referred from Job Centre Plus. However, if you want to self-refer, you are also welcome as anyone can attend the club. You can access free use of computers to update your CVs, complete job seeking activities online and practice interview skills.

The club gives attendees the opportunity to meet and support other people in similar circumstances. This contributes to an improved sense of wellbeing as everyone is ‘in the same boat.’  We know job seeking can be a lonely and often challenging time for many people so the club offers a safe and supportive place to get you back on track.

Our Work Club in Tameside has been running for eight years and there is still a need to offer this type of support. This is especially important now many job seekers are migrating over to Universal Credit and struggle to use technology as a method of communication. We have an average of 30 residents attending the work clubs each week with 50% of those securing paid employment being Jigsaw Homes tenants.

You can find the The Work Club on Old Street in Ashton every Tuesday and Friday mornings from 10am-12pm.
