Residents receive home energy support

On one of the coldest day of the year so far, the Neighbourhood Engagement team teamed up with
Groundwork and Gorton community grocers to provide home energy support to local residents.

The day’s event, on Friday 29 November, marked the annual Fuel Poverty Awareness day which had events taking place nationally.

Residents can benefit from a home visit from Groundwork who will assess the property and look at
ways to improve insulation and provide energy advice. This service can save a lot of money, particularly
throughout these cold winter months.

A typical visit would include going through a short questionnaire to gain an understanding of the household’s behaviours around energy. They can then carry out a home health check and give advice about things like fuel debt or switching supplier.

During visits, Groundwork’s Energyworks team can also check for any additional large measures that you may be eligible to claim a grant for which may be beneficial to your home.

At Jigsaw, we have an energy advice service which can offer help and advice during the winter weather. The service can advise you about how to use heating controls effectively, reduce energy usage, switch energy suppliers for a cheaper tariff, and other low cost measures residents can take themselves such as using energy efficiency light bulbs, timer plugs for chargers and draught excluders for internal doors.

You may also benefit from a referral to LEAP – an energy and money saving service that can help keep you warm and reduce your energy bills, without costing you any money.

If you know someone who would like some home energy advice or help, contact the Neighbourhood Engagement team.
